The next beginners course will bo on 20 July 2013 at 10.00 am. There wil be no other courses until December at this stage so get in quick.
To register in beginners classes please work through the steps below:
STEP 1 - PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Before registering you need to be aware of the following:
- We do not take beginners under
the age of 12 under normal circumstances. This is because in our
experience children under that age are simply not strong enough to draw
even the lightest of bows long enough for it to be an enjoyable
experience. If you believe your
child may be an exception please contact the club to arrange an assessment
before registering.
- Archery a martial art, and a
relatively difficult one at that. It is not a sport where you can expect "instant gratification".
- As
with other martial arts like judo, karate or taekondo it requires many
hours of practice to achieve even average competency.If you do not keep practicing you lose
that competency very quickly. Accordingly any decision to take up the sport is a significant
commitment. It is very important
you understand this from the outset to avoid frustration and
disappointment later.
- Beginners courses are of 2 hours duration. The cost is $23.64 and this includes equipment hire. For safety reasons you must wear reasonably close fitting clothing and closed in shoes. Bare feet, thongs and sandles are prohibited. If you have long hair it should be tied back so it does not catch in the bowstring. Long beards may present a danger. For the same reason piercing jewelry such as facial studs and nipple rings, and long earings should be removed.
- After the beginners class you have to make a decision to join the club or not. The decision need not be made immediately and you can continue to come and shoot as a temporary member for a maximum of 5 visits hiring the club equipment. From time to time the club offers more advanced training at a cost of $23.64 a lesson. At the end of the 5 visits you are precluded from further shooting unless you join the club. At the end of the 5 visits the ability hire club equipment ends and by then you will need to have purchased your own equipment.
